The Biloski Family
from Poland / Ukraine
Pictures forthcoming.
This site is about the Biloski Family of Port Arthur, now Thunder
Bay., in particular Anna and Mike Biloski. Mike was Polish, and
Anna was from the Ukraine.
The Biloski's had 10 children 7 boys and 3 girls.
The girls were named Minnie (married a Wenzel), Leona, and Stella
(married a Dowhos, or Dowhosie (a dentist)).
The boys were Stanley, Bruno, John, Edward, Edwin (who married Maria
Bilyk(source of this information)) and Albert.
They lived in the south side of Port Arthur in an area known as the
coal docks and owned some property on John Street that they used for
farming and grazing their livestock.
According to Maria Bilyk Biloski a close member of the family, Mr. Mike
Biloski had sent his son, Edward, to the University of
Winnipeg. Within a few months Edward returned from the
University, probably as a result of being away from home and all other
things considered.
Mr. Mike Biloski was so concerned about this situation, that in a
discussion with Dr. Tamblyn, (then President of a local
Collge) stated to him that if he would build a University in the
city, he would donate his lands on Oliver Road to build a
Universtiy. The Lakehead University site, as it was later
named, contains many memorial plagues in recongition of the
enormous properties that were donated to Lakehead University by
Mr. and Mrs. Biloski, farming property that now houses Lakehead
University and its accessory buildings.
